LATUR: In Latur city, Maharashtra, a group of six individuals assaulted a 26-year-old shopkeeper with weapons when he refused to pay ‘protection money,’ the police reported. The attack took place in Mataji Nagar near Kavha Naka, leaving the shopkeeper injured. The assailants visited his pan shop, demanding Rs 2,000, and when he declined, they threatened to disrupt his business, according to an official. Later, they tracked him to his home, where they violently demanded a monthly fee of Rs 15,000 to permit him to operate. During the altercation, they also took a gold ring and Rs 12,800 in cash. In response to the victim’s complaint, the Gandhi Chowk police have filed charges against the six accused.
