Less than a week after retiring from international and domestic cricket, former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has signed up with the Legends League Cricket (LLC).
Dhawan is considered one of the modern-day greats in white-ball cricket, known for his electrifying batting and infectious energy. His joining the LLC ushers in another phase in an already illustrious career.
An ecstatic Dhawan commented on joining Legends League Cricket, “Consciously or subconsciously, taking this new inning with Legends League Cricket feels like the right progression post my retirement. My body is still geared to take up the demands of the game, and though I am comfortable with my decision, cricket is an inseparable part of me-it shall never go out of me. I’m looking forward to regrouping with my cricketing friends and continuing to entertain my fans as we create new memories together.”
His career is embellished with accolades, from Player of the Tournament in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy to amassing altogether 6,793 runs in One Day Internationals with an average of 44.1, 27.92 in T20Is with a strike rate of 91.35.
He has been a great contributor to the Indian national team as well as the Indian Premier League team, making him one of the leading cricketing icons. In a career that spanned over a decade, Dhawan appeared in 269 matches, chalking up 10,867 runs at an average of 40.
Commenting on the development, Raman Raheja, Co-founder of the Legends League Cricket, said, “We are thrilled to have Shikhar Dhawan among us. His experience and flair undeniably glisten in affixing value to the contest and is going to be entertaining for the patrons. We look forward to seeing him perform with his compatriots, who are some of the greatest legends the game has produced. This will further step up our position as the 2nd innings for legendary Cricketers.”
Falling in with Legends League Cricket has been the perfect epitome of the next step for the careers of many of cricket’s stars. The likes of Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, and Hashim Amla joined in not long after retiring.
