Congress leader Shashi Tharoor criticized the BJP, warning of a threat to democracy if the party returns to power at the Centre. Tharoor expressed his concerns while campaigning for former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, who is contesting from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency as a Congress candidate.
Shashi Tharoor accused the BJP of attempting to polarize voters along religious lines and claimed that the party had divided people on the basis of religion and caste. He further alleged that the BJP had undermined various democratic institutions in the country, exerting pressure on them to align with its agenda.
Charanjit Singh Channi is contesting against AAP candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu and SAD candidate Mohinder Singh Kaypee in the Jalandhar constituency for the 2024 elections.
In Punjab, voting for its 13 seats will occur in a single phase, with the final phase scheduled for June 1. The voting process will encompass constituencies including Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur, and Patiala.
