Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shaitaan’, which hit screens on March 8, opened to a good response at the box office and collected nearly Rs 54 crore (nett) at the Indian box office in the first three days. The film also received favourable reviews with critics lauding the performances and haunting storyline.

‘Shaitaan’ witnessed a noticeable drop in collections on its first Monday. March 11, as is the case with most releases. The final figure, however, is still likely to be quite respectable.

According to Akshaye Rathi, an exhibitor, the day 4 collection will be around Rs 6 crore.

“Shaitaan was quite stable on Monday. The word of mouth is good and the performances have been appreciated. Monday’s collection should be around 6 crore, a good figure given the fact that it is a working day. Additionally, I expect it to spike up again over the second weekend,” he told ‘The Daily Guardian’.

Below is the daily breakdown for ‘Shaitaan’

Friday: Rs 15.21 crore

Saturday: Rs 19.18 crore

Sunday: Rs 20.74 crore

Monday: Rs 6 crore (expected)

‘Shaitaan’, directed by Vikas Bahl, is a horror-thriller that revolves around the clash between ‘good’ and ‘evil’. Besides Ajay Devgn, it features R Madhavan and Jyotika in the lead. ‘Shaitaan’ is a remake of ‘Vash’, a Gujarati film.

This is Devgn’s first release after ‘Bholaa’, which hit screens last year. He will next be seen in ‘Maidaan’. The sports drama features him as Rahim Saab, one of the pioneers of Indian football, and promises to be an underdog saga. It feature Priyamani, best known to the Hindi audience for her work on ‘The Family Man’, as the leading lady.

‘Maidaan’ will open in theatres this Eid. It is expected to face competition from Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, which will hit screens around the same time.  Devgn also has ‘Raid 2’ in his kitty.
