In a significant move for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab, State President Sunil Jakhar on Thursday welcomed several high-profile political figures into the party fold. Among them is Rahul Singh Sidhu, a prominent political leader from Muktsar, and other political workers from Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal.
Rahul Singh Sidhu, son of former Muktsar MLA Harnirpal Singh (Kuku), has been an active figure in politics for over two decades. He contested as Congress candidate from Kotkapura in the 2022 Punjab assembly elections, and has held esteemed positions such as a member of the Punjab Public Service Commission and president of the District Bar Association Muktsar. His uncle Bhai Shaminder Singh, is also a respected former parliamentarian from Faridkot.

Shiromani Akali Dal’s senior state vice president Vipin Sood Kaka (from Ludhiana) also joined the BJP under the leadership of Sunil Jakhar. This marks a notable transition of key political figures towards the BJP, further solidifying the party’s influence in Punjab
Additionally, a group of influential leaders from Ludhiana also joined BJP under the leadership of Sunil Jakhar, including—Gurinder Nayyar, Dr. Vishwanath Sood, Gurveer Singh Makkar, Kawanaljit Singh Timmu, Sanjeev Arora, Sanjay Gandhi, Joginder Nayyar, Shivam Sood, Abhay Sood, Kushal Sood, Sahil Tangri, Atul Goyal, Sanjay Badula, Rinku Vij, Chirag Mutneja, Surinder Shinda, Parinay Sood, Dr. Ritesh, Rahul Dua, and Puneet.
At the joining ceremony, BJP’s state general secretaries Parminder Brar and Anil Sarin, District President BJP Ludhiana Rajneesh Dhiman and State Media Chief Vineet Joshi were also present.

Sunil Jakhar, BJP Punjab State President, expressed his enthusiasm for the new members, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Rahul Singh Sidhu, Vipin Sood Kaka, and all the other esteemed leaders to the BJP family. Their experience and commitment to public service will greatly enhance our party’s vision and mission in Punjab.”
