Selena Gomez is gearing up to portray the iconic Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic, as revealed by the US media outlet Variety. The singer and actor dropped a hint about her role by sharing a picture of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, ‘Simple Dreams,’ on her Instagram story. The music biopic is currently in the pre-production phase, with notable producers such as John Boylan, Ronstadt’s manager, and James Keach, the producer of the 2019 documentary ‘Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.’
While the rest of the cast for the biopic is yet to be announced, Linda Ronstadt is celebrated as a legend in country, rock ‘n’ roll, and Latin music. Her albums from the 1970s, including ‘Heart Like a Wheel’ and ‘Simple Dreams,’ achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, showcasing her versatility across genres. Throughout her illustrious career, Ronstadt clinched 11 Grammy Awards and received Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy, according to Variety.
The 2019 documentary, directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, provided an in-depth look into Ronstadt’s nearly five-decade-long career and her dominance in the country-rock genre. In 2011, Ronstadt officially announced her retirement, later disclosing that she could no longer sing due to progressive supranuclear palsy, initially misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s, as reported by Variety.
