In response to the killing of two Village Defence Guards by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, security around the area has been intensified to prevent further incidents. Security forces have cordoned off the vicinity around the homes of the victims, who were residents of Ohli-Kuntwara village in Kishtwar.

On Friday, the remains of the slain guards, Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, were retrieved in the forested areas of Ohli-Kuntwara after a thorough search operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Army. The bodies were later returned to their families in the village.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, expressing deep sorrow and calling for strengthened security measures to prevent such incidents. “Deeply saddened & concerned by the attack that resulted in the deaths of Kuldeep Kumar & Nazir Ahmed Padder of Kuntwara in Kishtwar. I condemn this attack unequivocally & send my condolences to the families. I expect the security forces to quickly reinforce the counter-terror grid and prevent similar attacks in the future,” Abdullah posted on X.

J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also denounced the attack, paying homage to the two guards and reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminate terror groups and seek justice for the families affected.

The two Village Defence Group members were attacked by terrorists while grazing livestock in the forest, underscoring ongoing challenges for local security forces in the region.
