Security forces killed two terrorists as an encounter in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir, resumed. This operation began the previous day and has resulted in the deaths of three terrorists overall.

Renewed Gunfight in Akhnoor Sector

The renewed gunfight broke out in a village within the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region, as security personnel intensified their efforts to eliminate two terrorists who were holed up in the area. The situation escalated after the terrorists fired upon an army ambulance that was part of a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning. In the evening, one terrorist was neutralized during the operation carried out by special forces and NSG commandos.

Terrorists Found Near Assan Temple

The terrorists had been hiding near the Assan temple in Jogwan village, located in Khour. On Tuesday morning, the sound of two explosions was reported, followed by heavy gunfire. Tragically, a four-year-old army dog named Phantom was killed when struck by a bullet during the operation.

Army’s Tactical Response

To enhance the operation, the Army deployed four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles for surveillance and to fortify the cordon around the attack site. Helicopters were also utilized to track the terrorists hiding in the nearby jungles.

Recent Terror Incidents in Jammu and Kashmir

The three terrorists had infiltrated India from across the border the night before and opened fire on the Army convoy around 6:30 am, specifically targeting an ambulance. As troops retaliated, the attackers fled toward a nearby forest area, where they were eventually located inside a basement. Later, one terrorist’s body was recovered.

The region has seen a recent surge in terror attacks. Last week, two soldiers and two civilians lost their lives when terrorists ambushed army vehicles in Baramulla district. Just days prior, a local doctor and six non-local laborers were killed by terrorists at a tunnel construction site in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal.

Commitment to Justice

In response to the ongoing violence, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that “every drop of innocent blood spilled in the valley would be avenged.”
