Apple boss Tim Cook made headlines after intimating about releasing a huge product on February 19. The X post indicating the CEO foretold Apple gaining another sibling with the iPhone SE 4 as the likely candidate for being it. Looking to spruce up Apple’s low-budget line of iPhones, the iPhone SE 4 promises to attract price-conscious Android patrons eager for cheap access into Apple.
Although Apple hasn’t made any official statements regarding the device, rumors and inside sources give us a clear picture of what is to come. The new iPhone SE 4, which might also be referred to as iPhone 16E, is predicted to come in a shiny new design, differing from the now retro-looking present model. It is set to include a 6.1-inch OLED screen, which will have improved image quality compared to the existing LCD screens.
The look will supposedly be similar to the iPhone 14, featuring flat edges and potentially a notch. This would most likely dispose of Touch ID in favor of Face ID, ending the physical Home button on the SE line.
Beneath the hood, the iPhone SE 4 will be expected to use the A18 chip, which is the same processor rumored for the iPhone 16 devices, for improved performance and the potential for AI-driven capabilities. Combined with 8GB of RAM, twice that of today’s SE, the phone will provide easier multitasking and extended software support. Storage sizes should start at 128GB, as Apple discontinued lower storage capacities.
For photography, the SE 4 will probably stick with the single-lens rear camera, but with a major upgrade to 48MP, which is a big increase from the present model. The 12MP front camera will enhance selfies and video calls. The device will also have a larger 3,279mAh battery, with all-day battery life thanks to the power efficiency of the A18 chip.
Among the major changes is the adoption of USB-C charging, thanks to EU regulation, and the possible addition of Apple’s initial in-house 5G modem to minimize its dependence on Qualcomm. Other options are Wi-Fi 6 compatibility, IP68 water resistance as well as dust resistance, and an Action Button, similar to the one on iPhone 15 Pro series.
The iPhone SE 4 should be priced between $499 and $549, slightly more than the existing SE, but less expensive than top models. The release date in reality should be spring 2025, or March or April, according to traditional SE release patterns.
Since Apple is aiming to update its budget line, the iPhone SE 4 can be the lowest-priced but most powerful iPhone. The 19th of February will confirm whether Tim Cook’s hints were about the SE 4 or any other surprise.
