Microsoft Expands AI Infrastructure for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5. Microsoft is ramping up its server capacity in anticipation of OpenAI’s next major AI models, GPT-4.5 and GPT-5.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently hinted at GPT-4.5’s launch in the coming weeks, and reports suggest Microsoft could integrate the model as early as next week.
GPT-4.5, Codenamed Orion is expected to be OpenAI’s last non-chain-of-thought model, offering a significant performance boost over GPT-4. Initially slated for late 2024, its release was pushed to early 2025, paving the way for GPT-5’s much-anticipated debut by May.
What is new in Chat GPT?
GPT-5 is on its way to making a groundbreaking leap in the world of AI. This will be combining multiple AI developments into one system. One highlight is the integration of OpenAI’s o3 reasoning model which was first introduced in December.
Unlike the former one, the o3-mini this model will be directly implanted in GPT-5. Further advancing the OpenAI’s ambition toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Moreover, Open AI is setting new standards with the way people interact with ChatGPT. The existing model selection process, where the users have to select manually different models for different tasks, this thing will be solved.
Instead, GPT-5 will implement a new dynamic and adaptive system that offers a seamless experience without needing user input.
The Strategy of Microsoft AI and the GPT-5 Rollout
Microsoft should roll out GPT-5 integration sometime near its Build conference for developers on May 19, near Google I/O, staging a competition of AI by the two industry leaders.
Last year, OpenAI’s surprise GPT-4o launch disrupted Microsoft’s AI offerings on Azure. However, this time, Microsoft is fully prepared, with major updates planned for its AI assistant, Copilot. These updates include a refined interface and the removal of manual model selection, mirroring OpenAI’s approach with GPT-5.
