The principal of a private school in Goa has been suspended following a police complaint filed by a right-wing organization. The complaint alleges that Class 11 students were taken to a mosque for a workshop and compelled to partake in religious rituals. A member of the school’s management confirmed the principal’s suspension, while a senior official from the state education department has stated that they have requested an explanation from the school regarding the incident, which occurred last Saturday.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members filed the complaint against the school principal, located in Vasco town, accusing them of “supporting anti-national activities.” They asserted that the workshop had been organized by an organization affiliated with the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), where students were allegedly coerced into participating in religious rites.
A senior member of the school management acknowledged the suspension of Principal Shankar Gaonkar and offered an apology when a group of VHP activists visited the school on Monday to voice their concerns about the incident.
