Two separate petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court seeking its intervention in the wake of the horrific rape and murder of a young doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Advocates Ujjawal Gaur and Rohit Pandey have written to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, urging the apex court to take suo moto cognizance of the matter. They argued that the victim’s tragic death demands a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Dr Monica Singh from Telangana has filed a petition seeking immediate deployment of central forces to protect RG Kar Medical College and its staff. She highlighted the recent attacks on the college and the prevailing atmosphere of fear among medical personnel. The petition also calls for a comprehensive investigation into the incidents and the implementation of robust security measures in all medical institutions across the country.
