The Supreme Court held a hearing on petitions concerning alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET exam on Friday, June 14. During the session, the court issued notices to the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting NEET, requesting a detailed response regarding demands for a CBI investigation. Additionally, notices were sent to students with pending petitions in various High Courts, seeking their input.
The Supreme Court stressed the importance of receiving a comprehensive response from the NTA before proceeding further. The next hearing is scheduled for July 8. The petitioners’ lawyer underscored the issue’s gravity, highlighting its impact on the futures of 24 lakh students. While acknowledging the seriousness, the court emphasized adherence to legal procedures and the need to review the NTA’s response before any decisions are made. The court also cautioned against emotional appeals, focusing instead on legal processes.
The purported NEET paper leak triggered protests in several major cities nationwide. Demonstrations took place at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and outside Kolkata’s Vikas Bhawan. Protesters in Delhi voiced slogans like “24 lakh students demand exams, not scams,” expressing frustration and seeking justice. Students emphasized their dedication in preparing for the exam, asserting their right to fair outcomes. NEET results were announced on June 4.
The central government refuted claims of a NEET UG exam paper leak. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that no concrete evidence of misconduct, corruption, or paper leaks has surfaced in NEET. All pertinent details are presently under the Supreme Court’s scrutiny. Minister Pradhan criticized the politicization of the issue, citing its adverse impact on students’ mental well-being and emphasizing that NEET counseling is imminent.
He further noted that politicizing the alleged paper leak at this juncture is untimely and detrimental to students’ futures. The government remains steadfast in ensuring students’ bright prospects and upholding the examination’s integrity.
