Emma Stone, who just won a BAFTA for her role in ‘Poor Things‘ and has been nominated for an Oscar, is in talks to work with Yorgos Lanthimos on his remake of the South Korean fantasy comedy ‘Save the Green Planet’, Variety reports.

The project, which will begin filming in the United Kingdom and New York this summer, has been in development for several years. Jang Joon-hwan, who directed the original South Korean movie, was originally attached to direct the English-language adaptation, which is based on a script by Will Tracy, who has written HBO’s ‘Succession’ and Searchlight’s ‘The Menu’.

‘Save the Green Planet’ is a bizarre black comedy about a disillusioned young man who kidnaps and tortures a businessman whom he believes is part of an alien invasion. A battle of wits ensues between the imprisoned, his devoted lover, the businessman, and a private detective.

According to Variety, Stone is most likely to take a supporting role. The project would be Lanthimos and Stone’s sixth collaboration. The pair previously collaborated on ‘The Favourite’ and will next appear in ‘Kinds of Kindness’, an anthology film starring Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley.

‘Kinds of Kindness’ is set to be released later this year, with a possible global premiere at Cannes.

‘Poor Things’ has been nominated for 11 Oscars, including best picture, director, actress, and supporting actor, among others.

Lanthimos will also work with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe at Element Pictures for the sixth time on the remake project. The banner will produce the picture in partnership with Ari Aster’s Square Peg and CJ ENM (previously CJ Entertainment).

When CJ Entertainment released ‘Green Planet’ in 2003, it quickly became a cult hit and festival favorite. It earned prizes at fantasy festivals in Bucheon, Buenos Aires, and Brussels, as well as markets in Rotterdam, Tokyo Filmex, and Moscow. According to Variety, Jang won the Golden Bell Award for best new director in Korea.
