Samsung recently introduced its Flagship device Samsung Galaxy S 22 Ultra and in the kitty it added the S22 and S22+. What makes it Note like is the S Pen stylus. S series has always been a personal favorite in the Samsung Family for me so the bar is a bit too high for me, let’s see how does the S 22 Ultra fair.
DESIGN & DISPLAY
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra design is more like the Note series than its predecessors. It gets the big display flat top and bottom just like the Note Ultra. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra sports a large 6.8-inch display with a centered hole-punch cutout at the top. This panel has very thin bezels at the top and bottom. The aluminum frame makes the device look premium and gives it an edge when we talk about design.
The rear gets a quad – camera setup and this time around the set-up is more fitted in than bulging out. This does make a plain back of the smartphone look sleek and appealing. On the bottom, the phone has the S Pen tucked away in its own silo, a USB Type-C port, a speaker, and the SIM tray. The top of the frame only has a microphone.
The big 6.8-inch AMOLED display sports a quad-HD+ resolution and a 120Hz peak refresh rate. This panel is HDR10+ certified and has a peak brightness of 1750 nits. The display is pure delight. The AMOLED display is crisp with great viewing angles and color distribution is excellent.
SOFTWARE & PERFORMANCE:
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC this time. For the longest Galaxy S series was powered by Exynos SoCs. Samsung ships the Galaxy S22 Ultra with One UI 4.1, which is based on Android 12.
The UI feels polished and afresh. Samsung does preinstall a number of apps such as Spotify, Facebook, and Netflix, apart from its own apps and others from Microsoft and Google.
The real new add on is the S Pen. As you start to use that the shift from S series to a Note series can be felt instantly. All the actions that you can do with the stylus pop up and you can mauver the S 22 ultra just like a Note device.
Performance of the device is snappy. You can multitask and easily use heavy apps and face no lag or crash of any sort. You have the S Pen now which works like a remote for the device camera which is fun and at the same time very convenient. Gamers will enjoy the device a lot as it has the specs make it a pure delight for them.
CAMERA:
Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature a quad-camera setup on the back. It will consist of a 108MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, a 10MP f/2.4 3x telephoto camera with OIS, a 10MP f/4.9 10x telephoto camera with OIS, and a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera. Over on the front, it will pack a 40MP f/2.2 selfie shooter.
The low light photography is being highlighted this time around with this device called as “Nightography” and I must give it to Samsung they have worked on the low light and night photography of the device. The dissatisfaction you faced with the low light images has improved drastically.
Another high point in the Camera section is the 100X ‘Space Zoom’. We had first experienced it in S 20 Ultra and it has just been getting better. The results might not have a lot of clarity but are for sure recognizable.
Daylight shots on the Primary lens can never be complained with the S series, the images look great, color & contrast is always at its best. Even the Ultra-wide lens gave some amazing results with a bit of detail miss which was not hurtful. The micro lens had some real pleasing moments as the image quality was crisp and very well detailed.
The front camera has good results in both day as well as low light situation. Video recording topped out at 8K 24fps for the primary camera, but the frame is heavily cropped at this resolution to stabilise the footage. The selfie camera can record up to 4K 60fps videos.
BATTERY:
The battery so far has been good for just over a day on a full charge. The S 21 Ultra overtime gave me some battery issue. I am hoping the S 22 Ultra wouldn’t be the same. For now, as I have a very heavy usage of my device, I have faced no issue and it lasts well for over a day.
VERDICT:
This is the real mix we have been waiting for. The amalgamation of S series and Note. It could not have been done better. There is everything right in this device from the design to the performance all the way to the battery of this device.
At a starting price of Rs. 1,09,999 few might say that it priced high, but I feel the price will not be a question for this device.
It has well-crafted the specs bringing in a new processor making it the best Android device you can ask for with these specifications.
