Under stringent security arrangements, Bikram Singh Majithia, a prominent figure from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), was present before a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Punjab Police in the Patiala district on Monday for questioning concerning a narcotics-related case.
With his legal advisors, Bikram Singh Majithia reached the SIT office at approximately 11:45 am, affirming his adherence to the law and showcasing unwavering trust in the legal system. The SIT inquiry was supervised by Mukhwinder Singh Chhina, the Additional Director General of Police (Patiala range).
Before his interaction with the SIT, Majithia accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of manipulating the drugs issue for political gains. He alleged that the summons by the SIT was a consequence of his outspokenness against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, further asserting that the state machinery was being misused against him.
Dismissing the accusations against him, Majithia launched a scathing attack on the Chief Minister, condemning what he deemed as the politicization of the issue. “This is solely political, typical of Bhagwant Mann’s approach. They’ve been inactive for two years. If there’s evidence, I urge them to present it in court,” Majithia remarked, criticizing the CM’s handling of the situation.
Speaking to reporters in Patiala, Majithia delineated his battle against what he labeled as misuse of state resources by the government, highlighting a trend of filing FIRs against dissenters.
Majithia was implicated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on December 20, 2021, during the tenure of the Charanjit Singh Channi-led government. The case stemmed from a 2018 report by the anti-drug Special Task Force, leading to an FIR lodged by the state Crime Branch at its Mohali police station.
