Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced that the party is ready to provide legal assistance to Sikh youth who have been arrested by Punjab Police in their search for fugitive Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh. The crackdown has resulted in the arrest of 154 people for disturbing peace and harmony in the state.
In a series of tweets, Badal expressed concern over the indiscriminate arrests of innocent Sikh youth and condemned the use of extra-constitutional methods. He further stated that SAD stands for justice and the protection of the rights of Punjabis, particularly Sikhs, within the federal framework.
The party has released a list of legal team helpline numbers to ensure that the arrested youth receive complete legal assistance and their rights are not trampled upon by the government. Badal also accused the ruling AAP government of trying to defame the Sikh community for communal polarization and electoral gains.
“The puppet AAP regime in Punjab is responsible for the undeclared emergency and reign of repression and terror let loose in the state. We warn the government against dangerous conspiracies to defame the most patriotic Sikh community for communal polarization and electoral gains,” he tweeted.
The Punjab Police have arrested 154 people for disturbing peace and harmony in the state, according to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Gill.
