Shiromani Akali Dal today filed a complaint against Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman National Commission for Minorities for openly and illegally participating in political activities of the BJP while holding a Constitutional post and urged ECI to take strict action against him.
In a written complaint filed with ECI, Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler Chief Spokesperson and President, of Legal Wing of Shiromani Akali Dal, said that the Union Government has setup the National Commission for Minorities under the National Commission of Minorities Act, 1992. This Commission has been set up the safe guard and protects the interest of monitories as provided in the constitution of India and Laws enacted by the Parliament and State Legislators.

He said that Iqbal Singh Lalpura was re-appointed as Chairman National Commission for Minorities on 13.04.2022 by the Central Government. He said that he was appointed under a statute and is believed to work towards the betterment of minorities without involving himself in the political activities of a particular party. He said that he wanted to bring to the notice of ECI that Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman National Commission for Minorities, is involved in the political activities of Bharatiya Janta Party and he is present at the joining of political leaders into Bharatiya Janta Party. He said that last week he was also present at the Head Office of Bharatiya Janta Party when the Congress Member Parliament Preneet Kaur joined BJP.

Kler said that this is a clear cut violation of provision of Constitution and model code of conduct as Iqbal Singh Lalpura is working as political leader which otherwise is not expected from a chairman of National Commission who is drawing salary and other perks from the Treasury of Government of India. SAD leader registered a strong protest against such malpractices which is clear cut violation of provision of Constitution and the model code of conduct and urged ECI to take strict action against him.

Kler was also accompanied by Legal Cell member Jaspreet Singh Brar and SOI President Ranbir Singh besides others.
