CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has officially announced Virsa Singh Valtoha, a core committee member and former chief parliamentary secretary, as its candidate for the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. This declaration solidifies SAD’s representation in all 13 seats of Punjab along with the sole seat in Chandigarh.
Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal made the announcement, emphasizing Valtoha’s prominent role within the party and his fiery oratory skills. Valtoha, an ex-MLA, brings experience and fervor to the electoral fray.
However, amidst SAD’s lineup, an interesting independent candidate has emerged. Amritpal Singh, the head of Waris Punjab De, currently detained in Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act, is set to contest from Khadoor Sahib independently.
SAD’s recent spate of candidate announcements includes notable figures like former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who will stand from Bathinda. New entrant Mohinder Singh Kaypee has been fielded in the Jalandhar reserve parliamentary constituency, demonstrating the party’s strategic selection process.
Other candidates unveiled in SAD’s lineup include former MLAs and ministers such as Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Sohan Singh Thandal, and Nardev Singh Bobby Mann, each representing various constituencies across Punjab.
Additionally, the party has named Hardeep Singh Saini as its candidate from Chandigarh, rounding up its representation in the region.
The election fervor in Punjab is escalating as SAD unveils its roster for the upcoming polls. With seasoned politicians and fresh faces in the mix, the electoral landscape promises an engaging battle for representation.
Polling for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, along with the lone Chandigarh seat, is scheduled for the last phase on June 1, adding anticipation and momentum to the political discourse in the region.
