Prince Harry has decided not to attend the 7th Duke of Westminster’s wedding to avoid potentially uncomfortable situations with members of the royal family, particularly Prince William.
The upcoming wedding of Hugh Grosvenor and Olivia Henson will be held at Chester Cathedral. He is a close friend to both Prince Harry and William. As per the reports, Prince Harry has turned down a “save the date” of the invitation to avoid any “awkward” encounter with other royals.
Prince Archie, the 6-year-old son of Prince Harry, will not be present at the wedding ceremony of his godfather as well.
A source familiar with the matter stated, “William was requested to assume a prominent role in the wedding, which led to Harry declining an invitation. This event was the tipping point.” They further mentioned, “Harry shared a close bond with Hugh during their upbringing, so it was expected that he would be the one to take on a significant role, not William.”
Before it became known that Prince William would serve as an usher at the wedding, a source informed Page Six that Prince Harry had already decided to skip the ceremony. The source mentioned to Page Six, “Harry received a ‘save the date’ card several months ago but contacted Hugh and explained that it would be too uncomfortable for him and Meghan Markle to attend. Therefore, he expressed his regrets, and Hugh was understanding about it.”
Royal expert and author Tom Quinn said, “William will attend the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the seventh Duke of Westminster – he can hardly avoid it as Hugh is Prince George’s godfather.”
He also mentioned that Harry refused, citing it would be too awkward, and added that Harry understands he cannot attend without Meghan, and Meghan has firmly insisted she will not be there.
