The much-anticipated bid of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), like the Indian Premier League, took place on Monday in Mumbai.

Overall, 449 cricketers went under the hammer for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma took to twitter to congratulate his team on their successful bid.

Rohit stated on Tuesday that the Mumbai Indians as a family have grown and are looking forward to seeing our women’s team in action in blue and gold.

Mumbai Indians successfully bought India women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for INR 1.8 crore. The captains of the men’s and women’s teams will take the field for the Mumbai Indians by chance.

The Mumbai Indians were successful in bringing in several international players, including
Nat Sciver-Brunt (England), Amelia Kerr (New Zealand), Pooja Vastrakar (India), Yastika Bhatia (India), Heather Graham (Australia), Issy Wong (England), Hayley Matthews (West Indies), and Chloe Tryon (South Africa).

The inaugural edition of the WPL is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from March 4–26 in two venues at the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, and during the process, 22 matches will be played.

Smriti Mandhana, the star India opener, became the most expensive player in the WPL in 2023. The Royal Challengers Bangalore paid an all-time high of 3.4 crore for India’s vice captain.

The five franchises went to bid for the domestic and international players in the first auction of the WPL. The three IPL teams, the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals, along with Adani Group and Capri Global, spent a total of INR 4669.99 crore on Monday in the bidding.
