Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill set a new milestone during the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand by achieving the highest number of fifty-plus run partnerships in a calendar year. The dynamic duo overtook the legendary Australian pair of Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden.

In the semi-final match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Rohit and Gill created their 14th fifty-plus partnership in 21 innings this year, breaking Gilchrist-Hayden’s 2007 record of 13. Their stunning opening stand of 71 runs in 8.2 overs put another feather to their crown. Rohit Sharma finished his innings with a stunning 47 off 29 balls, which included four boundaries and four sixes.

Throughout the World Cup, Rohit-Gill consistently delivered impactful performances, with a notable highest partnership of 212 runs against New Zealand in January. In the semi-final against New Zealand, they scored a total of 445 runs in eight innings, facing just 330 balls.

India won the toss and elected to bat in the semi-final. The playing XI included Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj. New Zealand’s playing XI featured Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Trent Boult.
