In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Bandipora have arrested the mastermind behind a nefarious racket involved in the illegal trafficking of Rohingya women from Bangladesh. The Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Bandipora, Lakshay Vinod Sharma, revealed the details in a press conference held on Tuesday.
The investigation was initiated based on information received by the Police Station Hajin on November 23, 2023, from credible sources about the illicit trafficking of Rohingya women and their subsequent sale to individuals in the region in exchange for money through marriage.
Upon thorough examination and verification, SSP Lakshay Vinod Sharma stated, “We confirmed that this criminal activity involved two aspects – the illegal infiltration of Rohingya women from Bangladeshi refugee camps into India and their sale as brides, constituting human trafficking.” An FIR (First Information Report) was promptly filed, leading to the arrest of five individuals involved in the illicit operation.
Among the apprehended suspects, Manzoor Alam, son of Mohammad Ilyas, emerged as the central figure orchestrating the entire trafficking racket. Two Rohingya women were identified as victims of illegal marriages, and immediate legal action has been taken against those responsible. The police assured that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the operation and bring all involved parties to justice.
