Rinku Singh, a 25-year-old hitter, hit an undefeated 48(21)* against Gujarat Titans, giving Kolkata Knight Riders supporters something to remember for the rest of their lives.
KKR chased down a 205-run target against the Gujarat Titans, and Rinku Singh was at the heart of that big chase. Rinku faced a similar situation against the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 last year. He paved the stage for KKR’s victory but fell short of completing the task. This time, though, he made certain that his squad won. His father, Khanchands, witnessed his son work his magic on television, smashing five consecutive sixes against Yash Dayal.
“I didn’t prepare him; he did it all by himself. I didn’t get him a baseball bat or anything else. After a while, he began to play in the stadium and scored runs for his side. I used to tell him at the time that he should concentrate on his schoolwork because playing cricket would bring him nothing. He paid no attention to his studies. He scored runs in the event, and everyone said that your son plays well, so I told him that if he wants to play cricket, he can,” said Rinku’s father.
Rinku’s performance last night against the Gujarat Titans demonstrated his potential as a batter capable of winning games for his club.
While Rinku’s heroics are celebrated by KKR fans, his father has bigger intentions for the future years.
“I am very pleased with the manner in which he won the match for KKR yesterday. In the future, I want him to play cricket for India,” Khanchand remarked.
Rinku Singh will return to action for KKR against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2023 on Friday at Eden Gardens.
