Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed his sorrow on Saturday over the deaths of 15 people in the Rewa bus accident and provided an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for each deceased person’s family and Rs 50,000 for those who were gravely injured.

The majority of the bus’s passengers, according to Rewa Superintendent of Police Navneet Bhasin, were from Uttar Pradesh. A passenger bus and a truck crashed on a road in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Friday night, resulting in up to 15 fatalities. The crash has injured up to 40 people.

“The loss of life in a road accident in Rewa is a very sad incident. I am praying to Lord Shri Ram to give place to the departed souls at his feet and a speedy recovery to the injured. My condolences are with the bereaved families,” the UP Chief Minister’s Office said in a tweet.

The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh added that he had discussed the transfer of the deceased’s lifeless remains as well as the treatment of the injured with his counterpart from Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

“Talks were held with Chief Minister Chouhan Shivraj for proper treatment of the injured and transporting mortal remains of deceased Uttar Pradesh residents to the state. Instructions have been given to provide assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the seriously injured,” CMO added.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, has also expressed sorrow over the deaths.

The Madhya Pradesh administration will transport the passengers’ lifeless remains to Prayagraj, Chouhan informed the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

“Injured passengers have been sent to Prayagraj in two buses overnight after getting treatment. Critically injured passengers are getting treated free of charge at MP’s Rewa Medical College. Rewa district administration is ensuring all necessary arrangements,” said MP CMO in a statement.

On Friday, between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m., a bus travelling from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, collided with a truck trolley in the Suhagi Pahari neighbourhood. There were about 100 passengers on board.

Rewa District Collector Manoj Pushp said: “It seems that the trolley truck had an accident with a truck in front of it, and when the driver applied brakes, the bus behind it rammed into it. Rescue operations were conducted and the injured have been sent to the hospital.”

According to the collector, rescue efforts were finished last night, and police, government officials, and locals are already on the scene.
