Prominent classical singer Dr. Prabha Atre passed away at the age of 92 due to a cardiac arrest at her residence. She was associated with the ‘Kirana Gharana’ in Hindustani classical music and had received all three Padma awards from the Indian government. According to sources, she suffered a cardiac arrest in her sleep and was pronounced dead at a private hospital in Kothrud at 5:30 am.

Dr. Prabha Atre was honored with the Padma Shree in 1990, Pdma Bhushan in 2002 and Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second-highest civilian award in 2022. She wrote two books on music composition: Swarangini and Swaranjanee. She is known for creating new Raagas such as Apurva Kalyan, Madhur Kauns, Darbari Kauns, Patdeep-Malhaar, Shiv Kali, Tilang Bhairav and Ravi Bhairav.

Given that some of Atre’s close family members reside abroad, her funeral will take place once they arrive. Born on September 13, 1932, Dr. Atre was recognized for her diverse talents, not only as a classical vocalist but also as an academician, researcher, composer, and author. With degrees in science and law, she held a doctorate in music.
