Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket icon, has surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s feat by becoming the batsman with the most runs scored in a single year in the ODI format. Sachin Tendulkar, the next-level cricketing legend, reached the four-digit mark in a single ODI year seven times: in 1994, 1996–1998, 2000, 2003, and 2007.While Kohli’s record-breaking performance was outstanding, it is worth noting that he fell short of matching Sachin’s record of 49 ODI centuries. Virat Kohli’s 88-run innings from 94 balls were crucial to India’s World Cup campaign, earning him his 118th ODI score of 50 or more runs.

Kohli’s 189-run partnership with Shubman Gill laid a solid foundation for India’s bid to set a substantial total against Sri Lanka and advance to the tournament’s semi-finals.
