Rani Mukerji stars as the fearless police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy in the Indian action-thriller serial Mardaani. Her fight against human trafficking is the theme of the first film (Mardaani, 2014), which has garnered appreciation for its realistic portrayal of a serious social concern. In its sequel (Mardaani 2, 2019), Shivani fights a psychotic serial killer, dealing with systemic issues and gender-based violence.
