Rakhi Sharma, a renowned athlete from the Tricity area, has brought honour to the region by clinching the gold medal in the 44th National Masters Athletics Championship.
A resident of Panchkula, Rakhi achieved this remarkable feat at the championship organized by the Masters Athletics Federation of India in Pune, where participants from 28 states across the country showcased their athletic prowess.
Expressing her joy, Rakhi Sharma shared that she secured the gold medal in the 1500-meter race, underscoring the pride she feels in achieving this accomplishment. She credited her success to the support and guidance provided by her coach, Arvind Kumar, who played a crucial role in boosting her morale during training. Rakhi expressed her gratitude towards her coach, highlighting his significant contribution to her achievements.
This recent victory adds to Rakhi Sharma’s impressive track record. In the preceding year, she clinched the bronze medal in the 800 meters event at the biennial Asia Masters Athletics Championship (AMAC) held in the Philippines.
Additionally, Rakhi had a stellar performance at the Open International Championship in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, securing two gold medals. In the 2023 Chennai Nationals, she earned a silver medal.
Rakhi Sharma’s sporting achievements extend to the 2017 Nationals in Prayagraj, where she clinched three gold medals. Notably, she also secured two silver medals at the Guntur Nationals and one silver medal at the Manipur Nationals. Rakhi’s consistent success in various national and international championships reflects her dedication and prowess in the field of athletics.
