The presented Rajasthan tableau in Press Preview of Tableaux participating in the Republic Day Parade 2024 at Rashtriya Rangshala Camp, Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt, is a demonstration of the development of women’s handicraft industries, nurtured along with the festive culture of Rajasthan. This is a beautiful glimpse of the cultural and architectural legacy, where past and present meet.
According to the nodel officer of Rajasthan tableau Dr Rajnish Harsh of Rajasthan Lalitkala Academy Jaipur, In the foreground of the tableau, there is a representation of the famous Ghoomar dance of Rajasthan, depicted through a mannequin of a dancer in Rajasthani Attire. Ghoomar is a traditional dance practised by the Women of Rajasthan, during various festivals.
The beautiful statue of Meera Bai, a symbol of devotion and power, is displayed in the rear part of the tableau. Apart from this, a glimpse of the rich handicraft traditions including Bandhej, Bagru print and Applique work, skilfully crafted by the women depict the entrepreneurship of the Women of Rajasthan.
In the rear part of the tableau, there is a decorated icon of a camel, the ship of the desert. The United Nations has also declared the year 2024, as the International Year of Camelids. The tableau showing two camels adorned with Gorband depicts the legacy of Camel Utsav held every year in Rajasthan.
Along with this, the mannequin of a man, in traditional attire, has also been shown as a symbol of rural life prevalent in Rajasthan. On the other hand, a Rajasthani woman in a traditional costume, riding on a camelback, can also be seen on the tableau.
Behind the mannequin of camel, the legacy of architectural excellence of Rajasthan is represented through beautifully decorated archways with the figures of elephants, and minarets, embellished with white colour on a pink background. All this paraphernalia is a beautiful display of the festive culture and architectural tradition of Rajasthan.
On both sides of the tableau, 10 folk dancers are performing traditional Ghoomar dance, blended with the mesmerizing symphonies of Ghoomar and Gorband songs, played on the various folk instruments. This presented tableau of Rajasthan is holistically representing the concept of developed Rajasthan, while keeping art, culture and tradition alive, at the same time.
