As the assembly elections draw near in Rajasthan, the Congress party gears up for the electoral battle. However, the women’s wing of the party, the Rajasthan Women’s Congress, seems to be struggling to gain momentum.
The absence of a state president for the past 17 months has raised concerns about the organization’s effectiveness and its ability to engage women supporters.
The resignation of Rehana Riaz from her position as the Rajasthan Women’s Congress President on February 10, 2022, following her appointment as the President of the State Women’s Commission, left the leadership position vacant.
Since then, the organization has been without a leader, resulting in a lack of progress and minimal activity within the Mahila Congress. It is worth noting that Rehana Riaz had actively worked towards strengthening the Mahila Congress organization during the 2018 assembly elections, serving as the State President for an impressive five-year term. Despite the Congress party’s commitment to gender equality and advocating for 50% reservation for women in politics, including ticket distribution in Panchayat Raj and local body elections, the absence of an active women’s Congress organization in Rajasthan raises concerns about providing opportunities and representation for women within the party. The lack of a dedicated women’s Congress organization poses challenges in effectively communicating the Rajasthan government’s schemes and initiatives to women across the state.
