Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi by putting a graph on his Twitter handle showing India first in the list of top 10 countries with highest spike of Covid cases in the last 24 hours. Taking a dig at PM Modi’s handling of the pandemic, the Congress leader said, “The right decisions at the right time means India is better off than other countries. Earlier, PM Modi had said that India was in a better position than many countries because right decisions were taken.”
Almost near the 2-million mark, the total number of Coronavirus cases has crossed the 18-lakh mark. With 52, 972 fresh cases, 771 deaths in the last 24 hours, India now has a total of 18,03,695 cases. The country has recorded 38,135 so far. The deadly virus has affected over 18 million people in the entire world and the numbers are still growing at a rapid pace.
Maharashtra reported 8,968 fresh Covid-19 cases. 10,221 recoveries & 266 deaths were recorded in the last twenty-four hours here, taking total cases to 4,50,196. The state now has 2,87,030 recovered patients and saw 15,842 deaths. Number of active cases now stands at 1,47,018 out of which 41,664 cases were reported from Pune only.
Delhi registered 805 more coronavirus cases, taking the tally to over 1.38 lakh, while the death toll rose to 4,021 with 17 more deaths. The number of active cases stood at 10,207 while the total number of cases climbed to 1,38,482. Seventeen more fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total death count to 4,021.
Tamil Nadu recorded 5,609 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the overall infection count to 2,63,222. As many as 109 people succumbed to the coronavirus as the death toll mounted to 4,241. Total 5,800 people were also discharged from different hospitals across the state taking the total recoveries to 2,02,283. Active cases in Tamil Nadu stood at 56,698 on Monday. Kerala reported 962 fresh cases, taking the total infection tally to 26,867 while the death toll climbed to 84 with two more fatalities. As many as 11,484 people are presently under treatment and 15,278 have recovered, including 815 recoveries in the last 24 hours across the state.
Karnataka reported 4,752 new coronavirus cases and 98 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 1,39,571 in the state. This includes 62,500 recovered patients from different hospitals across the state. Total fatalities due to Covid-19 stood at 2,594 in the state.
In the meantime, Uttar Pradesh reported 4,441 new Covid-19 cases in the last twenty- four hours, taking the total to 97,362. 50 more fatalities pushed the death toll in the state to 1,778. Among the fresh cases, the highest number of 507 infections was reported from Lucknow, followed by 415 in Kanpur and 194 in Varanasi. Andhra Pradesh saw the surge of 7,822 Covid-19 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 1,66,586. While 5,786 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the state, another 63 succumbed to the pandemic in the last 24 hours. With a total of 88,672 recoveries so far, the number of active cases now stands at 76,377 and the total fatalities have increased to 1,537.
Gujarat reported 1,009 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking its tally to 64,684 and the death toll crossed the 2,500-mark. With 22 Covid-19 patients dying in the last 24 hours, total fatalities rose to 2,509. The number of recovered cases in Gujarat rose to 47,561 with 974 more patients getting discharged from various hospitals.
Haryana reported 654 new coronavirus cases and 7 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 37,173, including 30,470 discharges and 440 deaths. Number of active cases stands at 6,263.
With 590 fresh cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the Covid-19 tally went past the 22,000-mark. 11 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 407 in the Union Territory.
