Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday extended his congratulations to the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. In a letter addressed to AIMC, Gandhi praised the organization’s contributions over the past four decades, highlighting its role as a “fearless voice for justice.”
In his message, Gandhi stated, “On the fortieth anniversary of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC), I congratulate our leaders and members, both past and present, who have built this organization brick by brick. Since the 1984 Bangalore Convention, AIMC has firmly established itself as one of the most active and fearless frontal organizations within the Congress party.”
He also commended AIMC for launching its first-ever nationwide online membership drive, expressing optimism about the role of women in public life. Gandhi mentioned that during his Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, he encountered many courageous women advocating for change and fighting against injustice.
“On this occasion, I would like to congratulate AIMC on the launch of the nationwide online membership drive. I met remarkable women across India who are determined to make a difference. Many had the passion, perseverance, and commitment to drive far-reaching changes in society. Some of the fiercest and most fearless voices against injustice were of women,” Gandhi wrote.
Touching upon the recently passed Women’s Reservation Act, he highlighted the need for Congress to support and empower both established and aspiring women leaders. “In a system often stacked against women, it is critical for each one of you to fight for and claim your rightful share of social, economic, and political power,” he said, adding that the upcoming leadership training program will further empower women across the country.
He urged the AIMC to continue working towards ensuring greater political participation of women, transcending caste, class, and religious lines. “The Women’s Reservation Act is an opportunity for Congress to identify, nurture, and support both established and aspiring women leaders. I hope AIMC continues its work towards ensuring greater political participation of women across caste, class, and religious lines.”
Gandhi concluded his letter by saluting the dedication of the AIMC members and wishing the organization continued success in its future endeavors.
