Congress leader Rahul Gandhi finally broke his silence on the Rajasthan Congress government crisis and listed it as an “achievement” of the Modi government. On Tuesday, Rahul posted his latest tweet attacking PM Modi and added a reference to the political crisis in Rajasthan to question the priorities of the Modi government amid the Covid-19 pandemic raging in the country. He also mentioned Madhya Pradesh, where the 15-month-old Congress government led by Kamal Nath fell in March after a rebellion led by Jyotiraditya Scindia.

While launching yet another scathing attack on the government, the former Congress president slammed the government over its “achievements” in the past few months amid the Covid-19 crisis. In his tweet Rahul Gandhi said, “Achievements of the government during the corona period: February-Namaste Trump, Marchbrought down the government in Madhya Pradesh, April-made people light candles, May-sixth anniversary of the government, June-virtual rally in Bihar, Julyattempt to topple the government in Rajasthan. This is the first time any member of the Gandhi family has spoken publicly on the Rajasthan political crisis triggered by the rebellion of Sachin Pilot who was once considered as a key member of Rahul Gandhi’s “youth brigade” in the party. In his tweet, Congress MP also added “Aatmanirbhar” jibe, a catch-phrase of PM Modi and said “That is why the country is ‘self-sufficient’ in the battle of corona.”

His scathing attack drew a swift response from the government as Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar launched a counter-offensive. In his response to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, the Union minister put out the “achievement” of the Congress leader. While listing out Rahul’s six achievements in identical fashion as his tweet, Javadekar said: “Feb: Shaheen Bagh & riots, March: Losing (Jyotiraditya) Scindia and MP government, April: Instigating labourers, May: 6th anniversary of historic poll defeat of the Congress, June: Defending China, July: Congress on virtual collapse in Rajasthan.”

The Union Minister went further and in his next tweet asked the Congress leader to also note the country’s achievements in “war against coronavirus”. “India has the least average cases, active cases and death rate than the US, Europe and Brazil. By making fun of candle lights, Rahul Gandhi, you have insulted the people of India and brave corona warriors,” he added. He also took a jibe at Rahul for his daily tweets and said that the Congress will become a “party of tweets” as it is doing no work among people and “losing” one leader after another.

Rahul Gandhi has been continuously leading his party’s attack on PM Modi. Just a day before this, he launched a direct attack on PM Modi over the issue of border standoff with China at the Ladakh sector. While releasing a video on Monday, Rahul targeted Modi’s “strong man” image and termed it as “Indian’s biggest weakness”. On Sunday, he had alleged that “BJP has institutionalised lies” and stated that the party is fudging data on coronavirus and related deaths, Gross Domestic Product figures and the recent standoff with China.
