After a video series on the India-China LAC standoff in eastern Ladakh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has started a new series of videos on Indian economy accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of destroying the country’s informal sector that covers more than 90 percent of the population.

In a video titled ‘Arthvyavastha Ki Baat, Rahul Gandhi Ke Saath’ which was released on Monday, the Congress leader claimed that the Modi government had implemented demonetisation, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the coronavirus lockdown with an aim to destroy the country’s informal sector. He cited the 2008 global recession and said that in 2008, there was an economic slowdown and while the American and European banks were shut, India wasn’t affected.

In a 3 minutes 38 seconds video, he further said, “The UPA government was in power then. In a question to then prime minister Manmohan Singh, I asked why the entire world was affected and not us. He told me that in order to understand the situation, you will have to know that there are two kinds here: organised and non-organised. The first involves major companies while the second includes smaller ones and farmers, among others. As long as the second one remains firm, no economic disaster can touch India.” He said that the impact of this attack on the informal sector would be visible soon as a result of which India won’t be able to produce jobs because the informal sector produced 90% of the jobs.

Gandhi also alleged that PM Modi needed media and marketing to run the government which was done by 15- 20 people.
