Rachel Reeves has been confirmed as the new chancellor of Britain as PM Keir Starmer announced his new cabinet on Friday. As per The Guardian, she is the first woman to hold the post in its 800-year history. Meanwhile, Angella Rayner was announced as the country’s Deputy PM and levelling up secretary. Yvette Cooper was given the role of home secretary while David Lammy is the UK’s new foreign secretary.

This came as Starmer made his maiden speech as British PM hours after being appointed for the role by King Charles III. Starmer, whose party secured 411 seats in the recently held UK General Elections thanked the outgoing PM Rishi Sunak for his services. Furthermore cherishing his victory, he said, “Now our country has voted for change.”
