Alexei Navalny, the leader of the Russian opposition, was reported missing from there, and his death was purportedly found in a mortuary a few days later. The body had “signs of bruises,” which resembled markings that would be expected from being confined during a seizure, according to an unidentified paramedic. The paramedic said that although the bodies of prisoners who pass away are usually sent directly to the Foreign Medicine Bureau, Navalny’s body was strangely transported to a clinical facility.

Serving a 19-year sentence, Navalny was a vociferous opponent of President Vladimir Putin. He died in a remote Arctic prison colony. According to the prison staff, he passed out while taking a walk and was not able to be revived. Lyudmila, Navalny’s mother, was notified by prison authorities that her son had died from “sudden death syndrome.” Even though Lyudmila had come to the jail area with Navalny’s attorney, she was told that her body could not be freed until an inquiry had been completed.

Russian officials are said to have been involved in Navalny’s death by both his allies and detractors, who also claim that the decision to withhold the body’s release is an attempt to hide evidence. Given that the report came from Russian government sources, Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny’s wife, expressed scepticism about it.

Foreign officials, including US President Joe Biden, have expressed shock over the news of Navalny’s death and have held Putin responsible for Navalny’s passing.
