Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences on Wednesday for the dual explosions in Iran, which claimed the lives of at least 103 individuals near the burial site of the late General Qasem Soleimani. In a letter addressed to Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Putin denounced the “shocking cruelty and cynicism” of the attacks, particularly emphasizing the tragedy of peaceful visitors at the cemetery becoming victims.
Simultaneously, the European Union (EU) called for justice in the wake of the twin blasts that resulted in the deaths of over 100 people gathered to commemorate the anniversary of General Qasem Soleimani’s killing. An EU foreign affairs spokesperson strongly condemned the bombings in Kerman, Iran, expressing solidarity with the Iranian people. The spokesperson articulated the EU’s firm stance, stating, “This act of terror has exacted a shocking toll of civilian deaths and injuries.”
The EU’s thoughts and support are directed towards the victims and their families, emphasizing the imperative need for accountability of the perpetrators. The EU spokesperson underlined the gravity of the situation, condemning the bombing and articulating the necessity of holding those responsible for the heinous act accountable. Both Putin’s message and the EU’s statement underscore the global condemnation of the brutal attacks, with leaders expressing sympathy for the victims and advocating for justice in the face of such horrific violence.
