Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is actively working to reignite the interest of youth in sports, and the positive results of these efforts are now evident.
These sentiments were expressed by Punjab’s Minister of Power and Public Works, Harbhajan Singh ETO. He stated that it is a matter of great pride that hockey players from the holy city of Amritsar have won a bronze medal for India at the Paris Olympics.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO mentioned that Minister of Rural Development and Panchayats, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, along with district administration officials, have arrived to welcome the players. He added that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has already announced a reward of one crore rupees to encourage the athletes.
He further stated that since the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state, the “Kheda Watan Punjab Di” event has been organized, providing athletes with opportunities to compete at block, district, and state levels. He noted that the Amritsar team’s captain Harmanpreet Singh, along with Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Jarmanpreet Singh, have played for the Indian team.
He also criticized previous governments for failing to implement a robust sports policy, which led to disappointment among athletes. However, the Aam Aadmi Party government has now emerged as a ray of hope for the youth of Punjab.
