Sudhir Suri, Shiv Sena leader shot in Amritsar on Friday. The incident took the life of Shiv Sena leader.

During an agitation, shooting occurred in Amritsar close to Gopal Mandir. Suri was taken to a hospital shortly after the incident, where he passed away. When police arrived, they detained the suspect. The weapons were also found by the police.

“Sudhir Suri was shot outside Gopal Mandir, Amritsar during some agitation. He sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to hospital and died. The accused has been arrested. His weapons are recovered,” Arun Pal Singh, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar said.

Five bullets were fired at Suri, after which he lost consciouness and was taken to the hospital. The doctors declared him dead.

After some broken statues were discovered amid rubbish outside the temple grounds, Shiv Sena leaders staged a sit-in protest against the temple officials.During the protest, one person from the crowd fired at Suri.

According to rumours, Suri was already protected by a sizable security posse since he was on a hit list. The alleged assailant was grabbed by the crowd, and police eventually arrested him. Sandeep Singh has been named as the alleged attacker.

Reacting to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tajinder Singh Bagga slammed Aam Aadmdi Party (AAP) government and said that law and order has collapsed in Punjab. “Law and order collapsed in Punjab, Shiv sena leader Sudhir Suri injured in firing in Amritsar,” he tweeted.

Suri was arrested on charges after he used offensive language against a particular community and hurting the religious sentiments in July this year.

A video was posted on social media by him where he, along with some of his associates, can be heard saying objectionable words against the community.
