A team of the crime branch of Punjab police on Tuesday conducted a raid at the residence of senior SAD leader and former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia after the dismissal of interim anticipatory bail by Punjab and Haryana High Court yesterday. Surprisingly, Punjab Police did not wait for the High Court orders and conducted the raid whereas in Punjab and Haryana High Court orders it is mentioned, “Petitioner be not arrested” for the three days till he files his case in Supreme Court. (TDG has the copy of the High Court order.)
As per Advocate Arshdeep Kler, Counsel of Bikram Singh Majithia, “Hon’ble Supreme Court has ordered to cancel all bails registered under NDPS cases, hence bail of Majithia too got cancelled. Since now we have to go Supreme Court to file our case, So, Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court gave us the time of three days and also put stay on the arrest of Bikram Singh Majithia. But still, Punjab Police without waiting for the orders of Hon’ble court, conducted a raid at the Majithia House in Amritsar, which is contempt to court orders.”
The police team remained at the house located in the Green Avenue area for around 50 minutes. Police commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill confirmed that a team of crime branch conducted the raid.
The police officials though remained tight-lipped, a police official of the team said that the raid was conducted following the dismissal of the anticipatory bail of Majithia.
According to information, the raids were carried out at different locations to nab Bikram Singh Majithia. The police team searched the house five over half an hour and later returned empty-handed. The Daily Guardian tried having word with DGP Punjab V K Bhawra but he refused to give any comment on this issue.
