According to an official statement issued on Friday, Punjab Police has cancelled the leaves of all officers in the state until 14 April.
“No leave may please be sanctioned to GOS, NGOs, and EPOS until 14 April, 2023.” All previously sanctioned leaves are immediately cancelled. “This is being issued in accordance with the instructions of W/DGP, Punjab,” stated an official letter from the Office of the Director General of Police, Punjab. Meanwhile, the Punjab Police warned people not to believe rumours and fake news about radical preacher and pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh’s surrender on Friday. Responding to a media report on Friday, Punjab Police said in a tweet that “this is fake news and factually incorrect. Please fact-check news stories before sharing them. Don’t spread rumours and fake news.” Waris Punjab’s deputy chief, Amritpal, has been on the run since 18 March, the day Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt for him. Amid speculations that the radical preacher is likely to surrender at Amritsar’s Golden Temple, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Law and Order, Parminder Singh Bhandal, said last Saturday, “We are continuously working to ensure the safety and security of people in
Amritsar.”
