The National Commission for Women has come across a media post wherein it is reported that Ms. Bhavana Kishore, a journalist has been detained by Punjab Police in Ludhiana.
Further, it is allegedly said that during her arrest there were no female police officers present and she was taken away without providing any reason.
The Commission has taken cognizance. Considering the gravity of the matter, Chairperson Ms Rekha Sharma has written to the Director General of Police, Punjab to personally intervene and look into the matter as Ms. Bhavana is unreachable since the incident.
Ms Sharma spoke to the DGP last night and has been personally following up the matter with Ludhiana Police. Ms. Bhavana was invited by the media coordinator of AAP to cover a program in Ludhiana and later, detained by the Police which raises suspicion and seems to be politically motivated. Ms. Bhavana must be released immediately, if she is still under illegal detention. A detailed action taken report along with a copy of the F.I.R must be explained to the Commission within 4 days.
Netizens are showering their anger by tweeting against the Punjab Police and the AAP government, demanding to release Bhavana Kishore immediately.
