The Department of Mathematics at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, inaugurated a two-day workshop, “Recent Advances in Mathematics,” running from February 22-23, 2024. Dr. Arvind Kumar Gupta from IIT Ropar, in the esteemed presence of Director Prof. Baldev Setia, Convenor Prof. Asha Gupta, and Co-Convenor Prof. Sucheta, kicked off the event with a floral welcome and the lighting of the auspicious lamp. The workshop is coordinated by Dr. Rattan Lal and Dr. Ankit Kumar.

The primary objective of the workshop is to offer participants a comprehensive exploration of recent developments in Mathematics. The lineup of speakers, specializing in areas such as Mathematical Modelling, Topology, Machine Learning in Mathematical Finance, and Coding theory, aims to create an interactive environment. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions, pose questions, and thoroughly examine the potential applications and consequences of the presented advancements. In the inaugural session, Dr. Arvind Kumar Gupta delivered an invited talk on “Understanding Various Transportation Systems: Theory and Simulation.”

The talk provided a thorough overview of the theoretical foundations and practical applications of transportation systems, coupled with the power of simulation techniques in analyzing and optimizing these complex networks. Participants gained valuable knowledge and tools to address the challenges facing modern transportation networks.

Key resource persons for the workshop include Dr. Arvind Kumar Gupta (IIT Ropar), Dr. Jitender Singh (GNDU, Amritsar), Dr. Puneet Pasricha (IIT Ropar), Prof. Sucheta (PEC, Chandigarh), and Prof. Asha Gupta (PEC, Chandigarh).

Through interactive sessions, participants will delve into Mathematical Modelling, Coding theory, Topology, and the intersection of Machine Learning with Mathematical Finance. The workshop aims not only to present the current state of these fields but also to inspire participants to explore further and undertake their own research endeavors. By showcasing exciting possibilities and addressing unanswered questions, the workshop seeks to motivate participants to contribute to ongoing advancements in these mathematical domains, fostering curiosity and enthusiasm.
