Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government following a report by a special investigation team (SIT) suggesting that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi conducted a TV interview in 2023 from Bathinda jail.
Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster, is accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, widely known as Sidhu Moosewala. Moosewala was killed on May 29, 2022, in Mansa district after he unsuccessfully contested the Punjab assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa constituency in February that year.
Warring expressed his discontent, stating, “We can’t expect justice for Sidhu Moosewala from a government where gangsters hold such ‘power’ over the administration.”
He further demanded accountability from the AAP government in Punjab through a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “The people of Punjab demand answers @AAPPunjab. How is it possible for a gangster to give an interview from inside a jail? How can the public feel safe when such liberties are afforded to murderers? Law and order has deteriorated severely, and dark days are looming for Punjab.”
The SIT is investigating two TV interviews reportedly given by Bishnoi to private channels in 2023 while he was lodged in Bathinda jail. Currently, Bishnoi is in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail in connection with a drug seizure case.
Warring’s sharp rebuke highlights concerns over the state’s law and order situation and questions the administration’s ability to manage incarcerated criminals effectively.
