Sunil Jakhar, the President of the Punjab BJP, slammed the Punjab Budget presented today, labeling it as the third consecutive visionless budget with no roadmap for farmers, crop diversification, and industry revival. Jakhar criticized the government’s failure to address the concerns of farmers on critical issues like crop diversification, groundwater conservation, and income support.
Expressing disappointment, Jakhar highlighted that in the third year, the government has yet to provide solutions for farmers, failing to fulfill the promises made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during the election campaign. He questioned the whereabouts of CM Mann’s conscience, especially regarding the promised Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers.
Jakhar accused the AAP government of pushing Punjab towards financial calamity, emphasizing the disconcerting aspect of a budget of 2 Lakh Crore with an overall debt approaching 4 lakh crore. He summarized the essence of the budget, stating, “Budget 2 lakh Crore de paar te karza 4 lakh crore de paar.”
The BJP President criticized the government’s approach to development, stating that it has been raising significant debt without delivering on promises, especially in the realm of crop diversification. He expressed disappointment with the budget, labeling it a concoction of lies, hollow promises, and propaganda, with no roadmap for any sector, including Industry.
Jakhar specifically addressed the meager allocation of funds for the industry sector, deeming it inadequate for ensuring its revival and employment generation. Furthermore, he pointed out the lack of a plan for urban development and city infrastructure upkeep, asserting that even funds and schemes mentioned for education are merely slogans on paper without substantial transformation.
