Tensions Flare in Punjab Assembly as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa Lock Horns. The Punjab assembly witnessed a fiery exchange between Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa of the Congress, as they clashed over allegations of involvement in the drug trade. The intense confrontation led Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan to adjourn the House for a brief 10 minutes.
After resuming the session, it was adjourned sine die following Chief Minister Mann’s announcement of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s decision to approach the Supreme Court on October 30. This legal move is in response to Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s refusal to give assent to three critical money Bills.
The altercation between Chief Minister Mann and Bajwa erupted during the Zero Hour when Bajwa raised concerns about allegations made by Jalandhar West AAP MLA Sheetal Angural against AAP’s sole Lok Sabha member, Sushil Kumar Rinku. In response, Mann pointed out that differences among party members were not uncommon and even alluded to a letter penned by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, implicating Bajwa in the drug trade.
Bajwa, taking offence to Mann’s remarks, challenged him to take action against him with a defiant “Tu jo karna karla” (Do what you like). The Chief Minister objected to Bajwa’s impolite address, igniting a heated argument that divided the House. AAP MLAs called for disciplinary action against Bajwa for his use of unparliamentary language, further escalating tensions in the assembly.
