Former AAP leader and Jalandhar (West) MLA Sheetal Angural has written to Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, seeking to withdraw his resignation, just a day after the Lok Sabha polls in Punjab. Angular, who defected to the BJP on March 27, along with Jalandhar MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, had resigned from his MLA position two months ago.
Angular cited his dissatisfaction with the AAP as the reason for his initial resignation. However, in a surprising turn of events, he has now requested to retract his resignation and continue serving as the Jalandhar (West) MLA.
Speaker Sandhwan confirmed receipt of Angural’s letter and stated that a decision on his request would be made in due course. Sources indicate that the AAP will deliberate on this development, considering the implications of the anti-defection law, which comes into play following Angural’s resignation from the party.
This political manoeuvring comes in the wake of a closely contested Lok Sabha election in Jalandhar on June 1, which saw candidates from multiple parties vying for the seat. Contestants included Congress’s Charanjit Singh Channi, BJP’s Sushil Kumar Rinku, AAP’s Pawan Kumar Tinu, and SAD’s Mohinder Singh Kaypee.
