The 17-year-old boy who tragically killed two young IT professionals with his luxury Porsche car on May 19 has reportedly confessed to the Pune Police that he was heavily intoxicated while driving at the time of the accident. According to India Today, which cited police sources, the teenager revealed during questioning that he could not fully recall all the events.
According to Hindustan Times, The teenager informed the Pune Police that he was so intoxicated at the time of the accident that he could not remember anything. He was questioned in the presence of his mother, who was arrested on Saturday, along with crime branch officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Tambe and the district child protection officer.
Despite efforts to elicit information, the juvenile remained tight-lipped during questioning, police told HT.
“Our officials asked the minor about his location before the accident, his presence in Blak and Cosie pubs, driving the Porsche, details of the accident, tampering of evidence, collection of blood samples and medical tests. To all the questions, the minor had a single answer – that he had no memory of anything as he was drunk,” said a crime branch official.
The initial investigation revealed that the minor and his friends had consumed alcoholic beverages at two pubs, where they accumulated a total bill of ₹48,000.
Meanwhile, The Times of India reported, citing Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, that the minor driver’s mother, who was arrested on Saturday for allegedly providing her blood sample in place of her son’s, claimed that doctors at Sassoon General Hospital had instructed her to give her blood instead of the boy’s.
“We have recorded the statement of the woman (49). She told us that the doctors of the hospital had told her to give her blood as sample instead of her son’s. She feigned ignorance on why the doctors told her so,” The Times of Indiaquoted Amitesh Kumar as saying.
On Sunday, a Pune court remanded the parents of the boy to police custody until June 5 in connection with a case related to the destruction of evidence.
The duo is under investigation for their alleged involvement in tampering with the minor’s blood sample following the car accident on May 19 in Pune, Maharashtra, which resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals.
The minor’s mother, Shivani Agarwal, was arrested on June 1 after it was revealed that the boy’s blood samples had been replaced with hers.
The Pune Police took custody of his father, realtor Vishal Agrawal, who was previously arrested in a related case, for his alleged role in destroying evidence. The police presented the couple before a holiday court in Pune and requested their remand, which was granted until June 5.
The police informed the court that Vishal and Shivani Agarwal conspired to destroy evidence related to the accident.
The police allege that the couple visited a state-run hospital and tampered with the minor’s blood samples. Their lawyer, Prashant Patil, stated that the police have already searched their home and recovered CCTV footage.
The couple has been charged under IPC section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence), which is a bailable offence. Patil argued that they should be sent to judicial custody.
In addition to the minor’s parents, the police have also arrested his grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and pressuring him to take the blame for the accident, among other charges.
Furthermore, two doctors from the state-run Sassoon General Hospital and an employee have been arrested for allegedly swapping the minor’s blood samples.
The police have registered three separate cases related to the car accident. The first case is an FIR concerning the accident itself. The second case targets the bar that allegedly served alcohol to the minor.
The third case involves the wrongful confinement and coercion of the family driver to take the blame for the accident. Additionally, the boy’s father has been charged for allowing him to drive without a valid license.
