The Punjab RAI Council of Science and Technology (PSCST) has granted approval to Punjab University and its two regional centers for a project on forest and climate change submitted by the Northern Region S&T Cluster (PI-RAHI) under the Environment Education Programme of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). An allocation of Rs 12.10 lakh has been sanctioned to Panjab University for establishing eco-clubs in its centers and 117 affiliated colleges.

This initiative aims to conduct practical capacity building workshops, demonstrations, campaigns, exhibitions, and competitions to impart knowledge and skills related to environmental practices such as waste management, water conservation, reducing single-use plastics, and energy conservation. Additionally, auditing and life skills like disaster management, wildlife photography, and construction of bird shelters will be covered. Nature camps will also be organized as part of the program. The establishment of the Eco-Club is expected to raise awareness among more than 15,000 students and 1000 teachers in Panjab University and its affiliated colleges, fostering a culture of environmental management and sustainable living. The programme will be executed through the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Panjab University, with Dr. Praveen Goyal as the coordinator.

Professor Rajatsandhir, Principal Investigator of the Northern Region S&T Cluster (PI-RAHI), serves as the chief coordinator for the program. Professor Renovig expressed satisfaction that Panjab University has been chosen for this significant initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
